Great Plains Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Unit (GP CESU) was formulated as a regional CESU unit in 2000. The University of Nebraska–Lincoln serves as the host office.

The GP CESU utilizes a predetermined Cooperative Agreement for its network of academic institutions, non-government organizations (NGO’s) and federal agencies geographically located within the Great Plains region of the United States. This predetermined agreement makes available simple and relatively quick funding mechanisms with a focus on scientific research, education and technical assistance.

Members of the unit benefit from a collaborative partnership serving the biological, physical, social, cultural, and engineering disciplines needed to address resource and research management within an ecosystem context. The GP CESU is one of 17 CESUs located throughout the nation.
